普洱奶茶

Puer milk tea

No matter when, where or under what circumstances, drinking Pu'er tea is exciting. Most of the time, we drink Pu'er tea alone. Since Pu'er tea is so self-contained, why not enjoy it in its purest form? However, there are still many wonderful flavors in the world, many of which can complement and enhance the taste of tea and vice versa. Today we start a series of new ways to experience Pu'er tea, starting with adding milk to the tea.

Milk tea (often enjoyed as boba tea) is a popular beverage in Asian countries and is becoming increasingly popular in the United States. In the vast majority of cases, milk tea is made from black tea or even green tea. While our own black tea is perfect for making milk tea, today we experimented with adding milk to several types of Pu'er tea.

Ripe Pu-erh Milk Tea

We start by blending the milk with our 2016 Memorial Ripe Pu'er. The gorgeous deep hue of cooked tea blends with milk to create a satisfying tan. We tried to recreate the classic milk tea recipe by freezing the tea before adding milk. The result is an incredible milk tea rendition. The flavor of the cooked tea is still strong, but balanced with the milky aroma of the milk (we used 2% milk). All in all, it was a very successful experiment and we will definitely be drinking this new version of milk tea regularly.

Raw Pu-erh Milk Tea

Next, we decided to try adding milk to the tea's counterpart, the 2016 Memorial Raw Pu'er. Since raw Pu'er is quite different from the tea used in regular milk tea, we were very curious about the results of this special flavor fusion. For this tea, we decided to add the milk while it was hot so we had two very different experiences to compare. The final product was even better than we expected. The delicate floral aroma of raw Pu'er hits your nostrils, while the milk adds texture and even enhances the natural flavor of the tea.

There’s a reason milk tea is so popular these days, and it’s inseparable from the perfect chemistry between milk and tea. Today, we learned that Pu’er tea is the perfect partner for milk, and we recommend you try it at home.
